Zapier MCP for any client: setup with a connection token

Connect any MCP-compatible client to Zapier MCP by creating a server and generating a connection token, then adding it as a Bearer header or query parameter.

This page shows how to connect a client that is not in the picker to Zapier MCP using a connection token.

Before you begin

• A Zapier account.
• An AI client that supports the Model Context Protocol over Streamable HTTP. If your organization manages your AI client, an admin or owner may need to approve the Zapier connector first.

Connect with a connection token

1. Create a MCP server

   • Go to mcp.zapier.com.
   • Click + Add MCP Server.
   • Under Choose your AI agent, click See all, then select Other.
2. Generate a connection token

   • Select the Connect tab.
   • Click Generate token.

   Treat your connection credentials like a password. They can be used to run tools on this server and access your data.

   Copy your credentials and store them straight away. You can either copy the server URL, which now includes your token, or copy the token on its own from Or manually copy the token.

   The token is only shown once. If you lose it, you cannot retrieve it. Regenerate the token to get a new one.

3. Add the token to your client

   Your client needs the token in one of two forms. Use whichever your client supports.

   Authorization header (recommended)

   Point your client at the connect URL:

   https://mcp.zapier.com/api/v1/connect
   

   Then add this header to your client’s MCP configuration:

   Authorization: Bearer YOUR_CONNECTION_TOKEN
   

   URL with token

   Point your client at the full server URL, with the token as a query parameter:

   https://mcp.zapier.com/api/v1/connect?token=YOUR_CONNECTION_TOKEN
   

   The Connect tab shows this complete URL, ready to copy.

You’ve now connected your client to Zapier MCP.

Regenerate a token

If your token is exposed, or you need to invalidate the current one:

1. Go to mcp.zapier.com and select your server.
2. Select the Connect tab.
3. Click Regenerate token.
4. Copy and store the new token immediately. It is only visible once.

Regenerating immediately invalidates the previous token. Any clients using the old token will stop working until you update their configuration.
