Sponsor User Automation
While a Zapier account is still required for individual users, you can offer automation to your users without requiring them to pay for a Zapier plan themselves. With Zapier’s automation sponsorship, you cover the cost of automation on behalf of your users—making it faster and easier for them to experience the value of Zapier-powered automation—right inside your product. Why Sponsor Automation?
Sponsoring automation helps reduce friction for users and can significantly increase adoption and retention. It’s ideal for:- Reducing Signup Barriers: Users can start building workflows immediately—no credit card, no new SaaS to manage.
- Controlling the Experience: You own the automation UI and onboarding, while Zapier handles the backend.
- Driving Growth: Partners who sponsor usage see increased workflow engagement, feature adoption, and upgrades.
When to Use It
Sponsorship is a great fit when:- You’re embedding Zapier as a core feature of your product.
- You want to allow users to run automations without requiring them to pay for their own Zapier plan—while you cover task usage on their behalf.
- You’re building AI agents, integration marketplaces, or onboarding workflows powered by automation.
How It Works
Automation sponsorship is a feature that must be enabled by Zapier. To get started, please submit this form. Once enabled, you can choose between two user enrollment options:- Open Enrollment: Any user who creates a Zap through your embed will have their Zap task usage sponsored automatically.
- API-Based Enrollment: You selectively enroll users using the User Enrollment API, giving you precise control over who receives sponsored access.
- Users must have their own Zapier account. Signing up for an account is free.
- Cover a specific trigger, one or more actions, or both.
- If you sponsor the trigger of a Zap, all subsequent actions in that workflow are automatically covered.
- If you sponsor only an action, that action will be covered whenever it’s used—regardless of the trigger.
When sponsored or promotional coverage runs out
If a user is enrolled in sponsorship or a partner promotion and they use the full task allocation covered for their current billing period before that period ends:- Further tasks in that period are not covered by the sponsorship or promotion. Those runs count toward the user’s normal Zapier task usage, the same as any other tasks on their account.
- Their Zapier plan limits still apply. If that additional usage pushes them past the task limit for their current plan (for example on a Free plan with a small monthly allowance), their Zaps can pause until they upgrade or their usage resets at the start of the next billing period—the same behavior as any Zapier customer who exceeds their task limit.
